PTSD

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that occurs after a person has experienced or witnessed a traumatic event, such as combat, a natural disaster, an accident, or abuse. People with PTSD may experience intense, disturbing thoughts and feelings related to the event long after the danger has passed. Symptoms of PTSD can include:

  • Intrusive memories: Flashbacks, nightmares, or distressing memories of the event.

  • Avoidance: Steering clear of places, people, or situations that remind one of the trauma.

  • Negative changes in mood and thinking: Feelings of guilt, shame, numbness, or detachment, and difficulty maintaining relationships.

  • Hyperarousal: Heightened anxiety, irritability, trouble sleeping, and being easily startled.

PTSD can significantly impact daily functioning, relationships, and quality of life.
